Week 2 Recap
Dear Hurricane Families,
The first meet is complete, and the kids crushed it!!! Nice job everyone!!! The kids have made significant progress across the lanes and boards. Well done coaches, parents and Hurricanes! Dive team rolling, with a couple of changes below. Swim team still making progress. Expect continued movement of kids in assigned lanes so that they are with comparable skill level in their age group – this will help ensure they get the right level of coaching and instruction to develop and improve. Here’s what to expect from Week 3:
1. DONUT DAYS are every FRIDAY. Each team member will get one donut of their choice after their practice is complete. This will be set up and run by super volunteer Erin Mix under the cover of the pavilion. Please help her keep your kids organized and let them know it’s for after their practice – so that we can send them home on a sugar high!
2. Dive team will be adding practices on FRIDAY mornings. Don’t want our divers to miss out on the donuts and want to continue to develop the team.
3. Second meet, at Mt. Lookout, registration and job sign up are now OPEN. Sign ups close on Monday at 11 pm. No late entries. Couple of differences for this meet:
a. Diving will start at the usual time – 4 pm. Look for an email with details from Dave next week.
b. Swimming - this will be a split meet – all 8 & unders will go first – and the older kids’ meet will start after the 8 & unders. Look for an email from Brandon next week on when your kids should report to Mt. Lookout.
c. Because of the split meet format, we will need more volunteers at this away meet. We will need 8 & under timers and 8 & under officials.
d. Coach Brandon has asked for parents to recommend which events your kids swim in the meets, and which ones they can legally do in the comments section of registration for the meet. For instance, once I sign up Mary for the meet, I would type in that Mary prefers backstroke and IM, or that Mary isn’t confident in swimming butterfly, or that Mary really wants to try breaststroke in this meet. This isn’t a guarantee of events, but will help guide the coaches as they create the meet entries.
4. If you would like your child(ren) to attend the optional Saturday stroke clinics, please ensure that you register them beforehand. There is a limit each week.
5. We are still waiting on delivery of the team t-shirts, which are delayed due to shortages in the kids’ sizes. We hope they will be in and ready for distribution next week. We can and will distribute caps at Mt. Lookout for the kids who are entered in the meet and do not have one yet.
6. Next Friday, June 18th is Picture Day, in addition to Donut Day. Janelle Jankowski will be our photographer. More details to come early next week, including a sign up genius for individual photos.
Looking forward to our first donut day, backstroke clinic and week 3!
Thanks,
The Board
