Hello Hurricane Families!

Welcome to summer!!! Well, almost anyway. Wanted to get this communication out to prepare everyone for the upcoming season. This is the first of several communications in the next couple of weeks. If there are any questions following this communication, please reach out to Steve Edmonson at [email protected]. This email will cover many items, so please set aside a few minutes to fully read.

4.  Team Spirit Wear is available for purchase on the team website: https://harpershurricanes.swimtopia.com/

5.  Meets are on Thursday evenings beginning June 10th. We will ask that you sign your child(ren) into or out of the meet on the swimtopia website, and more instruction will come about that as we get closer. Many of the clubs, including Harpers, want to run the meets live this summer. If Harpers is the away team, we must comply with the Away club’s rules – including Covid rules. Some teams are not comfortable with live meets. If we compete against such a team, that meet will be done virtually, as we did last summer. If your child(ren) participate in the meet, we will require a parent volunteer to help us run the meet efficiently. There are many positions that do not require any swim or dive knowledge at all, as well as some that require technical knowledge and expertise of stroke technique. In other words, there is a position for everyone, regardless of understanding of the sport.

6.  Meet Schedule:

  • June 10th:  Away at Anderson Hills
  • June 17th:  Away at Mt. Lookout
  • June 24th:  Home vs Three Rivers
  • July 1st:  Home vs Madeira
  • July 8th:  Away at Kenwood
  • July 12th:  “B” Swim Eastside Championship Meet at Harpers
  • July 13-14:  “A” Swim Championship Meet at Mason
  • July 15th:  “A” Dive Championships at Madeira
  • July 16th:  “B” Dive Championships at TBD

7.  Championship Meets

  • “A” Swim Championships – the PPSL championship meet takes the top 2 swimmers in each event from each team, and the top relay team for each age group. Those individuals and teams compete against the other 14 league teams to determine a league champion. The 30 swimmers and 15 relays who initially qualify swim a preliminary session to determine which 16 move on to the finals session. The Prelims will be held on July 13th and the Finals on July 14th at Mason Rec Center pool.
  • “A” Diving championships again takes the top 2 individuals from each age group and has those 30 individuals compete to determine a diving champion. This year that championship will be held at Madeira on July15th.
  • “B” Diving championships takes all remaining Hurricane divers to compete in a meet against the other divers from the remaining 14 teams. Location TBD on July 16th.
  • “B” Swim Eastside and Westside Championships takes all remaining Hurricane swimmers to compete against the 7 teams from the east side of Cincinnati. Harpers will be hosting the Eastside Championship Meet on July 12th.
  • A swimmer or diver can only compete in 1 championship meet. The coaches will determine which swimmers and divers compete in which championship meet.

Looking forward to a great summer!

Thanks,

Harpers Hurricanes Parent’s Board
